Three jurisdictions

Florida, New York and the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. One lawyer who can appear where the parties, the assets and the court are not in the same place.

Three languages

English, Russian and Ukrainian, each at working level. Documents, witnesses and clients are heard in the original, not through a translator's summary.

Two legal systems

Trained in civil law in Odesa and Bern, and in common law in Miami. Experience with how a European judgment, a tribunal award and a U.S. court actually fit together.

Five cities that shaped the practice

A cross-border lawyer is made by the places she has worked, not the places she has visited. Each of these left a specific skill.

The questions clients bring

Each line of the practice starts with a question someone actually asked. The answers below are general information, not legal advice for a particular matter.

"We won in a European court. Can we collect in Florida?"

Often yes, but not automatically. Florida recognizes foreign money judgments under its own statute, and the 2019 Hague Judgments Convention is now in force for a growing list of states. The questions that decide the outcome are jurisdiction, notice and public policy, and they should be answered before the first filing, not after.

Cross-border disputes

"The other side is a state. Can we even sue?"

Sovereign immunity is the first wall, and in the United States the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act decides where the doors are. Recent Supreme Court and Eleventh Circuit decisions have moved those doors. A tribunal award, a treaty and the right exception can turn an unpayable claim into an enforceable one.

International arbitration

"We use AI with customer data in two continents. What applies?"

Usually several regimes at once: GDPR, the EU AI Act with its revised timetable, and a patchwork of U.S. state privacy laws. Years inside the largest technology platforms taught one rule: map the data flows first, then the law. The map is what regulators ask for.

Is your matter cross-border?

Three questions. The answer shows how many legal systems your situation touches and which question to settle first.

Credentials

Everything on this page can be checked against a bar directory, a university or a published text. That is deliberate: in cross-border work, verifiability is the first service.
